Kara Creek Ranch is located 15 minutes from the historic town of Sundance, Wyoming. Wyoming is known as the cowboy state and is the second most sparsely populated state with cattle often outnumbering people. It is also one of the last places where the true cowboy culture is still plentiful. Ranching, rodeos and cattle drives are just some of the activities that can be enjoyed in our beautiful state.
At Kara Creek Ranch, we have more than 5,000 head of cattle that graze freely over 70,000 acres of mountains, fields, hills and prairies. We raise mainly Black and Red Angus cattle and take pride in caring for our animals and ensuring they remain healthy and happy. During our spring and fall seasons you will have the opportunity to work with the cattle – a contact that makes the experience at Kara Creek Ranch fascinating! You will work directly with the ranch cowboys learning how to care for the cattle and manage them – a truly educational experience.
Kara Creek Ranch Quarter Horses
At Kara Creek Ranch, we have primarily quarter horses with some paint and appaloosa horses. Many of the horses on the ranch come from excellent working cow-horse breeding. The horses on the ranch graze freely year-round. They are healthy, strong horses, that are excellent to work cattle with and good companions during cattle drives: satisfying in expert hands, reliable in less expert hands. Many of them are trained right here on the ranch and put to work to do everyday cowboy chores that they are born to do. At the end of the day they are released to roam and be free in the large pasture around the ranch headquarters. Don’t worry if you haven’t ridden in some time or have never ridden the western way, we will match the horse to your riding level.
Kara Creek Ranch has many amenities, including a fully stocked fishing pond where you can go cool off after a long day on the trail or do some fishing. The Kara Creek Saloon is a great place to kick back and reminisce about the days excitement or kick up your heels to some live music. And if you need some new cowboy gear or Kara Creek memorabilia, stop by the Kara Creek Mercantile.
